We are delighted to welcome Eli Thompson, founder of the internationally renowned Margate Soul Weekender, in conversation with Emma Jones CBE, Small Business Commissioner.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Soul Weekender, Eli will reflect on how the event began in the early 2000s as grassroots street sound system gatherings in Margate. What started as a small community-led celebration of soul music has grown into one of the UK’s most recognised music weekends, attracting thousands of visitors, world-class DJs and artists, and bringing a significant boost to Margate’s visitor economy each summer.
Emma Jones CBE will give a brief overview of her role as Small Business Commissioner and her work focused on improving payment times for small businesses.
Eli will then join Emma for an in-conversation interview exploring the journey of building a cultural event from the ground up, followed by informal networking.
Please arrive from 5.45pm to allow time to purchase a drink for a 6.00pm start. The event will conclude around 7.30pm.
